Markus Leiste: Biography





Born in Germany. Gets his first camera ("Kodak Instamatik") from his parents when he is six years old.
1983-1994 Studies Art History and Literature in Aix-en-Provence (France), Freiburg (Germany), at the Université de Sorbonne (Paris), and at the University of California, San Diego. Graduates from the Sorbonne with an M.A. and from U.C.S.D. with a Ph.D. in Literature.
1991-1995 Works as a photographer for several photo stock agencies in the U.S. and Germany while being a full time student at the university. Experiments with Polaroid film and other photo materials during that time.
1994 Begins to work as a Fine Art photographer and author after graduating from the University of California. Teaches sporadically at the University of California. 
2004 Moves from San Diego to Berlin, Germany, after living in Southern California for the past 15 years.
2009 Chooses Hong Kong as his new base.
2013 Relocates to the south of France.
2015 Moves to Germany.
2019Relocates to the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands.

2010 Group show at LUMAS gallery in New York with German painter Markus Lüpertz, American Pop-Artist John Baldessari, and others
2012Exhibition "Shopping Wonderland" at Goethe Gallery, Goethe Institut Hong Kong

1995-2023 Completion of two English language screen plays, two novels, numerous short stories, as well as a dozen film and TV treatments.
2009-2010 Author of an Internet blog about life in Hong Kong for the online edition of stern magazine
